The Akrofuom Assembly today joined the nation to observe the Green Ghana day celebration which is being observed nationwide.
The ceremony was graced by the District Chief Executive Hon Maurice Jonas Woode, the District Coordinating Director, Mr Ebenezer Ntiamoah, representative of the MP, Nananom, the clergy, students, teachers, Educational Institutions, Heads of Departments of the Assembly, Guards of the Forestry Commission and the general public.
Speakers at the event stressed on the importance of tree planting and urged all to partake in the exercise.
Participants were also concerned about activities that were causing the depletion of the forest and agreed to put in more efforts to protect the forest for generations yet unborn.
Over 25,000 trees are to be distributed to the general public in the district for planting at vantagious places.
These places will include farms, homes, school parks, premises of churches, premises of institutions and other ceremonial locations.
Trees to be planted include ofram, militia, cashew, Royal Palm, emire, orange, coconut, akyee and gmelina.
