Akrofuom: Distribution of 65,000 Oil Palm Seedlings to Farmers

The Akrofuom District Assembly is again to distribute 65,000 oil Palm seedlings under the government’s flagship PERD program to farmers in the district free of charge.
The oil palm seedlings were received from the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) to be given to farmers in the district.
At a short ceremony to officially hand over the seedlings, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode said he was optimistic that the distribution of the seedlings will serve as an alternative to the youth in the district to shift from illegal mining activities.
Also the Assembly aims at having enough raw materials before thinking of building a factory, under the 1D1F program of the government.
Again the Assembly aims at utilizing the degraded mined areas with the oil palm plantation.
Already, 45,000 of the seedlings have been received and distributed and the remaining 25, 000 will be delivered tomorrow.
