Akrofuom: Assembly To Push For Police Command

The District Chief Executive for Akrofuom District Assembly, Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode has revealed that efforts are underway to get a fully independent District Police Command for the district.

He said the Akrofuom District is distinct from Adansi South District (New Edubiase), Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East District (Obuasi) Assemblies, however, the Akrofuom District rely on these Assemblies for police services.

Hon. Woode made this known when he delivered the Executive Committee report of the Assembly at the fourth ordinary general meeting of the second Assembly of the Akrofuom District recently.

He said the Assembly will write to the Minister of the Interior through the Regional and District Divisional Commands for a fully independent District Command to be established in the district. This will help efficiently and effectively help in the fight to maintain law and order in the district.

Hon. Woode also revealed that the Assembly has made efforts to get the Sikaman and Ampunyasi Police Stations which are in the district transferred into the Akrofuom Police Command to expedite the dream of getting an independent District Command for the district.

He also revealed that the Assembly has budgeted to construct a police post at Grumesa, one of the communities in the district this year and that will also help the district in making a stronger case for an independent police command in the district.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has also resolved to continue to assist the Akrofuom Police Unit with more logistics in order to protect all the citizenry in the district. A vehicle will soon be procured for them for effective operations since it has been one of the numerous challenges confronting the Police service in the district.

Hon. Woode also disclosed some of the projects that the Assembly has undertaken in recent times. These included the commissioning of three schools, distribution of 500 dual desks and the commissioning of a 20-seater toilet facility. He added that there are other projects to be commissioned which include school blocks and CHIPS compounds.

For his part the Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Hon, Alex Blamkson also enumerated some of the interventions he has made since he was sworn in. He said efforts are underway to get some boreholes constructed in some of the communities in the district with special attention to the Akrofuom Senior High and Technical School. This will ease the challenges they face with regards to water especially during the dry season.

Hon. Blankson also added that he is much concerned about the state of the electrification in the district and he is liaising with the Ministry of Energy to impress on the contractors working in the district to double their pace.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Peter Amponsah also thanked the Assembly members and Heads of Departments for attending the meeting and urged them to continue to make development of the district, a topmost agenda for them.

He also urged them to relay the information and decions made at the house to their electorates in order for them to be abreast with happenings in the district.
