The Akrofuom District Assembly has on the orders of the Obuasi Magistrate court demolished an unauthorised structure in buffer zone closer to a river.
Having exploited all available means within the Assembly’s power to prevent the developer, Mr. John Hayford Ankrah (defendant) from continuing with the project proved futile.
The motion also stated that the building was interfering with nature reserve, civic and cultural site used by Akrofuom Divisional Council which could cause flooding in the area.
The court presided by His Worship Kofi Owusu Sekyere Esq granted the request of the Assembly on 25th of September, 2023 ordered the defendant to demolish the structure within three months of judgement.
However, three months after the expiration of the court order, the defendant, John Hayford Ankrah failed to carry out the demolishing.
On Thursday 28th day of March 2024, the Assembly carried out the demolition and surcharged him to pay for the cost at the Obuasi Magistrate court.
Attached is the judgement of the court.
